Davidoff adapts the term speicherring, the German word describing the collider in reference to his own work — creating new works through the ‘smashing together’ (both literally and metaphorically) of the sculptural and functional. In generating a new series of objects the relationships between them are reexamined.

For this exhibition, Davidoff’s wheel formed functional ceramic work are created to enhance the space around them rather than as stand alone objects themselves. Some objects become sculptural while others retain their functional characteristics still others, Davidoff describes, are a ‘hybrid’ of the two.

The works in The Speicherring Project are made from a variety of materials including porcelain, dark stoneware clay and lead as well as works on paper. Glaze, slip and solder are also used in developing a series of works, which approach the theme from different angles and perspectives.

More info at CRAFT
